NRPP Radon Measurement Field Technician Exam Requirements, Fees and Registration
The NRPP now offers two new certifications: the Radon Measurement Field Technician (RMFT) and Radon Mitigation Installer (RMI). Please note that you must be able to meet the oversight requirements listed below in order to obtain the Measurement Field Technician or Mitigation Installer certification.
** These new exams and certifications are not currently recognized by licensing states. Please contact your state radon program for more information.
Radon Measurement Field Technician (RMFT)
The NRPP Radon Measurement Field Technician Certification is designed for staff members who deploy and retrieve approved measurement devices and ensure building conditions for residential radon testing and assessment. A Certified RMFT must work under the general supervision and QA/QC oversight of a Certified Measurement Professional within the same company. You can find more information about prerequisites for this certification here: types of certification. We also recommend reviewing our candidate handbook for more information.
For all licensed states, please check with your state’s radon program to determine their exam and licensing requirements.
IMPORTANT EXAM NOTICE
A 30-day waiting period is required between exam attempts.
(An exam may not be taken more than four times in a 12-month period).
Starting October 1, 2024 the RMFT exam will consist of 95 questions:
85 scored questions (worth 1 point) + 10 unscored questions (worth 0 points)
The additional 10 questions are “trial” questions and will not count toward your exam score. We are pre-testing, or “trying out” new questions (that have never been administered before) to evaluate their quality. If they are unfair or too difficult, they are discarded and not used on a future exam. You will not know which questions these are so it’s important that you try your best on all of the questions.
Scores will still be based on your performance on the 85 scored questions only.

It is important to study the following ANSI-AARST Radon Standards:
Measurement Exam: MAH-2023 and MS-QA-2023
Mitigation Exam: SGM-SF-2023 and MAH-2023
(exam candidates will be provided access to these standards within the exam platform during their exam.)
All NRPP exams are proctored remotely online through a live proctoring platform called Certiverse. Exam candidates will present their Government-issued photo ID. Once audited, test-takers receive their exam results via email within 48-72 business hours. You may purchase exam study guides here: Student Study Guides. If you need to retake an exam or schedule an additional exam, you will need to return to this website to purchase another exam prior to scheduling with Certiverse.
