Radon Measurement Professional (RMP)
The NRPP Radon Measurement Professional Certification is for individuals who perform radon testing utilizing either an analytical device such as a continuous radon monitor or electret system, or a standard / passive device such as a charcoal test kit or liquid scintillation device. They are responsible for the implementation, execution, and documentation of all required QA/QC procedures and may provide general supervision and QA/QC oversight for Radon Measurement Field Technicians. Cost for RMP with Standard services: $230 | Cost for RMP with Analytical services: $305
To obtain this two-year certification, the National Radon Proficiency Program requires:
- Completion of a 16-hour Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course from an approved training provider (courses are good for up to 2 years from date of completion).
- Passing score on the NRPP Measurement Professional Exam
- Registration of an NRPP-approved measurement device
- 12 hours of continuing education biennially
- Adherence to the NRPP Code of Ethics & Certification Terms
- A device performance test to be performed biennially at one of the NRPP-approved radon test chambers*
- A proof of calibration on the measurement device(s) to be submitted annually*
*Required only for individuals applying for RMP certification with analytical measurement devices.
PLEASE NOTE: Registration of a standard device requires documentation such as purchase receipt, lease agreement, etc.
Radon Mitigation Specialist (RMS)
The NRPP Radon Mitigation Specialist Certification is for those who evaluate radon measurements and design and install radon remediation systems. A Radon Mitigation Specialist is responsible for the implementation, execution, and documentation of all required Quality Management and Worker Safety procedures and may provide general supervision Radon Mitigation Installers within the same company. Cost: $230
To obtain this two-year certification, the National Radon Proficiency Program requires:
- Completion of a 16-hour Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course from an approved training provider as a prerequisite (courses are good for up to 2 years from date of completion).
- Completion of a 24-hour Radon Mitigation Specialist Exam-Prep Course from an approved training provider (courses are good for up to 2 years from date of completion).
- Passing score on the NRPP Mitigation Specialist Exam
- 12 hours of continuing education biennially
- Adherence to the NRPP Code of Ethics & Certification Terms
Radon Measurement Field Technician (RMFT)
The NRPP Radon Measurement Field Technician Certification is designed for staff members who deploy and retrieve approved measurement devices and insure building conditions for residential radon testing and assessment. A Certified RMFT must work under the general supervision and QA/QC oversight of a Certified Measurement Professional. Cost $210
To obtain this two-year certification, the National Radon Proficiency Program requires:
- Completion of an NRPP-approved Measurement Field Technician (or Measurement Professional) Initial Training Course (12-hour minimum, courses are good for up to 2 years from date of completion).
- Passing score on the NRPP Measurement Field Technician Exam
- Registration and signed Statement of Professional Responsibility by the NRPP Measurement Professional providing QA oversight
- 8 hours of continuing education biennially (Category I only)
- Adherence to the NRPP Code of Ethics & Certification Terms
Radon Mitigation Installer (RMI)
The NRPP Radon Mitigation Installer (RMI) certification is designed for staff members who install soil depressurization systems in residences and implement measures to protect themselves, co-workers, and occupants from hazards related to the mitigation process. A Certified RMI must work under the general supervision of a Certified Radon Mitigation Specialist within the same company. Cost: $210
To obtain this two-year certification, the National Radon Proficiency Program requires:
- Prerequisite completion of an NRPP-approved Measurement Field Technician (or Measurement Professional) Initial Training Course (12-hour minimum, courses are good for up to 2 years from date of completion).
- Completion of an NRPP-approved Mitigation Installer (or Mitigation Specialist) Exam-Prep Course from an approved training provider (20-hour minimum)
- Passing score on the NRPP Mitigation Installer Exam
- Registration and signed Statement of Professional Responsibility by the NRPP Mitigation Specialist providing QA oversight and general supervision
- 8 hours of continuing education biennially (Category I only)
- Adherence to the NRPP Code of Ethics & Certification Terms
Soil Gas Mitigation Compliance Inspector (SGM-CI) Now Available
The NRPP Soil Gas Mitigation Compliance Inspector is for those who inspect ASD systems to verify if the installation complies with the ANSI-AARST Soil-Gas Mitigation Standard. SGM Compliance Inspectors have access to the AARST mitigation inspection app used to perform a visual assessment and generate a compliance report. Their role is to represent home buyers by verifying if systems installed as part of a home sale meet the minimum standards, help resolve citizen complaints to NRPP, and assist state radon programs with compliance enforcement. Cost: $210
To obtain this two-year certification, the National Radon Proficiency Program requires:
- Prerequisite: an NRPP Radon Measurement or Mitigation certification or approved relevant radon industry experience
- Completion of an 8-hour SGM Compliance Inspector Initial Training Course from an approved training provider (courses are good for up to 2 years from date of completion).
- Passing score on the NRPP SGM Compliance Inspector Exam
- 4 hours of continuing education biennially (Category I only)
- Adherence to the NRPP Code of Ethics & Certification Terms
IMPORTANT:
You will be required to complete the NRPP certification process before the following anniversary dates:
- NRPP-approved exam-prep courses are valid for 2 years
- NRPP certification exam scores are valid for 1 year
To maintain certification, you must recertify every two years. This means completing continuing education and other requirements that pertain to a particular certification, and submitting renewal documents and fees to NRPP. Please visit How To Recertify for more information.
